AT RISK: ‘Michelides Tobacco Factory’ in Northbridge, WA

The City of Perth has recently approved demolition for the former ‘Michelides Tobacco Factory’ in Northbridge. https://www.perthurbanist.com/history-of-the-michelides-tobacco-factory/. Located just north of the Perth CBD and with a prominent Art Deco styled facade constructed in stages through the 1920s & 30s, the landmark building has a lengthy frontage to the railway line, and operated as the Peters Ice-cream Factory in the second half of the 20th Century. The application to be recognised on the State Register of WA has been declined despite classification from the National Trust and recommendations from the Heritage Council of WA.
