Featherston

Number Of Pages: 288
$50.7 (27% off RRP $70.00)
This is the first book to celebrate the life and work of Grant Featherston (1922–1995), the Melbourne-based industrial designer most well known for his Contour chairs. This collection was designed and developed in the early 1950s and remains highly sought after by mid-century collectors in Australia and overseas – often fetching $10,000 or more at auction.
Featherston, later joined by his second wife, Mary, designed hundreds of chairs over the next thirty years; however, this astonishing Australian industrial design partnership has gone largely uncelebrated until now. Featherston focuses on the chairs produced between 1947 and 1975 and presents a new biography of the designer, drawn from archival research and interviews with his peers. It is extensively illustrated with over 250 beautiful photographs and includes a selection from the previously unpublished personal achieve of Ian Howard, the former Managing Director of Melbourne-based manufacturer Aristoc.

A richly illustrated presentation of Danish Mid-Century furniture classics and the iconic designers who created them
Danish design plays an important part in what has come to be known as the Mid- Century Modern style. Timeless furniture pieces, such as the Hans J. Wegner’s Y-Chair and Finn Juhl’s Chieftain Chair, influenced designers all over the world and are still considered classics. This book is the first to present an overview of the furniture created by Danish designers and architects, in the period between 1945–1975, tracing the movement from beginning to end.
Design history expert Lars Dybdahl provides thorough descriptions and analyses of particular furniture pieces, never failing to situate them within a historical and cultural context. The book is richly illustrated, showcasing the aesthetic development from post-war Denmark to the swinging sixties and seventies.
