The City of Stonnington (VIC) has recently completed and presented to Council, the Stonnington Thematic Environmental History: Post-war Addendum, which includes significant thematic content on the historical activities and development that have occurred within Stonnington between the years 1945 and 2000. It includes significant themes such as post-war modernist architecture, high-density living, architects’ own homes and much more.
This work will aid the Council in future identification and the protection of post-war places across the municipality.
The Stonnington Thematic Environmental History: Post-war Addendum (April 2025) explores the history and development across Stonnington during the post-war period (1945-2000) and provides the context for future heritage studies and assessments.
Council engaged Simon Reeves of Built Heritage to develop the Stonnington Thematic Environmental History: Post-war Addendum (April 2025) to broaden the historical understanding of the post-war period across the municipality.
Themes within the Post-war Addendum demonstrate how key patterns of development and historical activities influenced Stonnington, together with themes of modernist architecture, high-density living, migrant and LGBTIQA+ communities, retailing and commercial activity, sports and leisure, arts and culture, and more.
