(Un)loved Modern revisited, 13 years after the successful Australia ICOMOS (Un)loved Modern conference in Sydney in 2009, Docomomo Australia president, Dr Scott Robertson, reflects on the campaigns to save some of the threatened important post-war Modern Movement buildings.

Dr Scott Robertson is an architect in private practice in Sydney. He lectured and tutored at the University of NSW and the University of Sydney on a part-time basis for a period of 20 years and has delivered a number of public lectures and architecture tours in Sydney on architectural styles and conservation for the NSW Historic Houses Trust and NSW Architects Registration Board. He is the author of a NSW-wide study, Housing in NSW Between the Wars, for the National Trust of Australia (1996), a study for the Heritage Council of NSW, World Wars 1 & 2: Survey of Buildings, Sites & Cultural landscapes in NSW (2004-2006), and a recent study, Architectural Heritage in NSW of the Last Quarter of the 20th Century (2022), for the Heritage Council of NSW and Heritage NSW. He was the author of a number of entries in the Encyclopaedia of Australian Architecture, Goad and Willis, 2011, Melbourne: Cambridge University Press. He co-authored (with Dr Noni Boyd) an essay in Australian Modern, Lewi & Goad, 2019, Melbourne: Thames & Hudson Australia. He is a member of the Docomomo International Advisory Board and the founding and current President of Docomomo Australia. In 2017 Scott was awarded the Bathurst Macquarie Heritage Medal, a national award in recognition of his contribution to conservation.
