Live and Online Talk
Prof. Bruce Peter will explore Art Deco and Modern Movement architecture in Scotland in this talk for Docomomo Scotland on Thursday, 30 October. He’ll take us on a journey from the Jazz Age into the post-war period, discussing Scotland’s residential, industrial and public buildings of the long mid-20th century – and no doubt also some maritime and other transport architecture.
Bruce Peter is Professor of Design History at Glasgow School of Art. He has researched and published extensively on modern architecture and design for transport, pleasure and hospitality and is also internationally known as a maritime historian, specialising in the design history of modern merchant ships. In 2025, he has published the seminal book Art Deco Scotland: Design and Architecture in the Jazz Age and is now awaiting the publications, in November, of his book Modern Scotland: An Architectural Journey Through 150 Post-War Buildings.
