Taglietti and Science in Action: Architecture Tour By Bike

Canberra Tour

Canberra by Bike + Pedal Power + Australian Institute of Architects — ACT Chapter

Sunday, 12 Apr
Inner North and City

Enjoy a bike tour of Enrico Taglietti’s architectural landmarks in the inner north including Dickson Library and the Polish White Eagle Club. Hear from his former colleague Eric Martin AM, and finish at the Taglietti: Life in Design exhibition at Canberra Museum and Gallery. We’ll also visit scientific buildings in Acton including the Shine Dome and Ian Potter House.

Starting at Taglietti Square, outside the Dickson Library, gain an overview of Taglietti’s life, and learn about his designs of the library and the nearby community health centre. We will then visit the Polish White Eagle Club in O’Connor, designed in the early 1970s to “symbolise a big tent under which the whole Polish family in Canberra would gather”.

Next we’ll head to Acton, to see the modernist marvel that is the Academy of Science’s Shine Dome, Ian Potter House, and the Art Deco National Film and Sound Archive which began as the Institute of Anatomy.

Finally, we’ll roll to the Cinema Centre at 50 Bunda St, which today hosts a nightclub, before concluding the tour at the Canberra Museum and Gallery for the Taglietti exhibition. Guests are welcome to then visit the museum’s cafe (refreshments sold separately).

Meet at Taglietti Square Dickson Library, Dickson Shops, ACT 2602
