Symposium: Habiter au XXIe siècle, les édifices des années 1950-1970
15th – 16th November 2018, Maison de la Culture Le Corbusier, Firminy, France

Based on examples of collective housing from the 1950s to the 1970s, this symposium, organized by the Ministry of Culture (Direction Générale des Patrimoines – service de l’architecture, sous-direction de l’enseignement et de la recherche en architecture, bureau de la recherche architecturale, urbaine et paysagère) and the National School of Architecture of Saint-Étienne, aims to promote exchanges and debates about the stakes of the adaptation, transformation and enhancement of 20th century architectures in professional practices, nowadays.

This symposium will have conferences, visits, round tables and exhibitions involving the eight research teams of the National School of Architecture St. Étienne of the multi-year research program “Architecture of the 20th century, a project subject for the sustainable city of the 21st century”.

Promises, realities, adaptations. Three words that will structure the conference, with the questions of new uses, adaptability, recognition of values (specially cultural) and new professional practices.
