Docomomo International would like to draw your attention to the alarming situation of the Maison Zilveli, designed by Jean Welz, Paris, France, 1933. This masterpiece is threatened with demolition by the proprietor in order to almost double the accommodation. The two storey home sits on the top of a hillside on stilts, in a narrow strip of land just 6 meters by 30 meters, and suspended five meters above the ground. Nuclear Heritage: Chernobyl wants to become World Heritage

Docomomo International would like to share the news from the European Heritage Tribune entitled “Nuclear Heritage: Chernobyl wants to become World Heritage”. “Almost 35 years after the nuclear disaster in Ukraine, authorities hope to make the 30km Chernobyl Exclusion Zone a Unesco World Heritage site. To achieve the protected status, a place ‘must be of outstanding universal value’, according to UNESCO. As Docomomo International had already informed on our website (see the previous news here), the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning rejected the request to issuance a building permit for the BŠP project, meaning that this monument of national importance was saved from demolition. Docomomo International became aware by Docomomo São Paulo Nucleus that the bill (published as Complementary Law 71/2021), which determines the extinction of the Fundação Pró-Memória de Indaiatuba, was approved. The Foundation, created by Law No. 3,081 of December 20, 1993, recently celebrated its 27 years of experience in actions related to the preservation of the historical heritage of Indaiatuba. The project, approved with a favorable vote of twelve councilors, on March 22, 2021 in a session of the Municipal Council of that county, determines the extinction of the Foundation in 90 days. Docomomo International became aware by the architect Nondita Correa Mehrotra, director, Charles Correa Foundation (CCF), that the renovation plans for Goa’s Kala Academy are underway, but there are questions related to its budged of Rs 50-crore. Save La Butte Rouge Garden City!

This Garden City is threatened by the intention of the mayor of the city to accept the demolition of 15 buildings, despite all the efforts undertaken. Saved! – Plečnik Stadium

Great news! Docomomo International is glad to inform that one of Ljubljana Modern’s masterpieces, Plečnik Stadium, is saved from demolition. The Stadium was in an extreme risk of being demolished due to a project of a new modern sport complex, the Bežigrad Sports Park (BSP) including a large-scale construction of skyscrapers, office buildings and underground storeys. Thankfully, the Ministry of Environment announced this week, that they have not approved the proposed project for the redevelopment of the Plečnik’s Stadium.
