Docomomo International would like to share the news from the European Heritage Tribune entitled “Nuclear Heritage: Chernobyl wants to become World Heritage”. “Almost 35 years after the nuclear disaster in Ukraine, authorities hope to make the 30km Chernobyl Exclusion Zone a Unesco World Heritage site. To achieve the protected status, a place ‘must be of outstanding universal value’, according to UNESCO. Docomomo International became aware by Docomomo São Paulo Nucleus that the bill (published as Complementary Law 71/2021), which determines the extinction of the Fundação Pró-Memória de Indaiatuba, was approved. The Foundation, created by Law No. 3,081 of December 20, 1993, recently celebrated its 27 years of experience in actions related to the preservation of the historical heritage of Indaiatuba. The project, approved with a favorable vote of twelve councilors, on March 22, 2021 in a session of the Municipal Council of that county, determines the extinction of the Foundation in 90 days. Saved! – Plečnik Stadium

Great news! Docomomo International is glad to inform that one of Ljubljana Modern’s masterpieces, Plečnik Stadium, is saved from demolition. The Stadium was in an extreme risk of being demolished due to a project of a new modern sport complex, the Bežigrad Sports Park (BSP) including a large-scale construction of skyscrapers, office buildings and underground storeys. Thankfully, the Ministry of Environment announced this week, that they have not approved the proposed project for the redevelopment of the Plečnik’s Stadium.
