Docomomo US is accepting article submissions for publication on its website and in its biweekly newsletter on a wide range of issues concerning modernism. In particular, Docomomo US invites submissions on the following two topics for inclusion in upcoming newsletters:
Travel & Leisure
The Docomomo US 2021 annual theme is Travel & Leisure. Two special edition summer newsletters, one in July and one in August, will be dedicated to articles addressing this theme. We invite article proposals that engage with the theme through a variety of topics, including but not limited to: hotels, motels, resorts, travel amenites, diners, roadside attractions, theaters, local, state, and national parks, 1970s resources, travel stories, travel movies, travel resources, and restaurants. We encourage submissions that explore and reveal the different experiences of travel and leisure for African Americans, Asian, Latinx, LGBTQIA+ and other marginalized communities during the mid 20th century.
Regional Spotlight Series
The Regional Spotlight Series began last year as a way to help you explore modern sites around the country without leaving home. Each series consists of three to five articles delving into different topics on modernism in a particular region. We are all familar with modern architectural meccas like New Canaan, Palm Springs, and Columbus, but modernism worth knowing about can be found in every corner of the country. What is the history of modernism in your area? Are there undiscovered sites or designers you would like to share with a broader audience? Is there a preservation battle brewing that you want to shine a light on? If you think your city or region should be the focus of a Regional Spotlight Series, we encourage you to submit a proposal via the instructions below.
Proposals for single article, stand alone spotlight submissions will also be considered.
All geographic locations are welcome. Past Regional Spotlights include: Chicago, Houston, Mississippi, Las Vegas, Colorado, Kansas, and Pittsburgh. A second spotlight can be done on the same region, but it must cover different subject matter.
Forthcoming 2021 Regional Spotlights: Milwaukee, South Dakota, Vermont, and Albuquerque.
