16th International Docomomo Conference / Tokyo, Japan, postponed to September 2021

16th International Docomomo Conference

Tokyo, Japan, 2021

In light of global travel restrictions, altered economic circumstances and general risk and uncertainty promoted by the COVID-19 pandemic, it is not possible to proceed with DOCOMOMO2020 as originally planned. DOCOMOMO International and the Japan Conference Board for DOCOMOMO2020 have decided to postpone the Conference, to take place in Tokyo, from September 2020 to September 2021.

The possibility of undertaking the Conference online was discussed by the Japan Conference Board. However, it was soon realized that one of the greatest benefits of DOCOMOMO Conferences was to be had in experiencing, first hand, architecture, cities and human relationships.

Many countries and cities are now cordoned off, and people are forced to spend most of the time in their own homes. This phenomenon is illustrating a crisis, not only for people, but also for modern cities and their architecture. This alarming condition must be further studied and discussed and will be included in the program of DOCOMOMO2021.

We hope to count with your participation in DOCOMOMO2021, in Tokyo, September 2021. We appreciate your patience and understanding. Let us keep together in solidarity and hold DOCOMOMO spirit alive.
