New publication: Historic House Museums in the United States and the United Kingdom
A new book authored by Dr Linda Young (M.ICOMOS), Historic House Museums in the UK and the USA: A History (Lanham MD, Rowman & Littlefield, 2017). It’s a history of house museums considered as a species of museum (akin to art museums, natural history museums, etc), in the UK and the US, with occasional Australian and New Zealand references.
Historic House Museums in the United States and the United Kingdom: A History addresses the phenomenon of historic houses as a distinct species of museum. In the United States the term is almost synonymous with historic preservation; in the United Kingdom, it is simply unfamiliar, the very idea being conflated with stately homes and the National Trust. more »
